What is the Southeastern Sumo Championship?
Founded in 2025, the Southeastern Sumo Championship was created to build community and grow the sport of sumo across the southeastern United States. Designed as a circuit-style championship, the series runs throughout the sumo season, giving nearly every club in the South the opportunity to host an event.
Athletes, or sumotori, earn points by signing up, competing, and placing in the top three at each event. At the end of the season, all points are tallied, and the overall champion is crowned at the first event of the following year.
The Southeastern Sumo Championship isn’t just about competition—it’s about bringing together athletes, clubs, and fans to celebrate and expand the sport we love.
